Old Orchard Beach, ME has been a vacation paradise-by-the-sea for over two centuries. It has provided fun, excitement and entertainment for generations of vacationers with amusement parks, restaurants, nightlife, and seven miles of beautiful, uninterrupted sand beach.
The big band era saw the likes of Jimmy Dorsey, Guy Lombardo, Duke Ellington, and many other famous bands and entertainers playing on the Pier, famous for its ocean view and the revolving crystal ball in the huge ballroom at the end. The Pier itself has undergone many rebuilds and changes over the years, with today’s version being built in 1978.
Old Orchard has just as much to offer today as it did back then! Seven miles of white sandy beach make this a perfect location to sunbathe, bask in the surf, or just stroll for miles. For the kids, there is the promise of endless beach exploration, building sand castles and the appreciation that only kids can have for the warmth of the incoming tide creeping up over their toes. Palace Playland is a beachfront amusement park with waterslides, old fashioned rides and amusements for kids of all ages, even a Ferris wheel directly overlooking the beach. Palace Playland is just 6 minutes from Wagon Wheel RV Resort and only 4 minutes from Virginia Tent & Trailer and Wild Acres! Beach-goers love their golf, and there are several great golf clubs within a short distance of our Old Orchard Beach campgrounds, campsites and cabins in Maine.
Location is everything, and Old Orchard is centrally located to many of Maine’s best attractions. Just north is the seaside city of Portland, where the Old Port region offers art galleries, museums, boutiques, specialty restaurants and the famous Portland Headlight and Museum. The Portland Jetport is just 13 miles from Old Orchard, and the Maine Mall offers shopping, movies, and restaurants.
Nearby Scarborough Marsh is the largest salt marsh in New England, making this a unique Maine attraction. The marsh offers guided tours for walking and canoeing, exhibits and a nature store. Ferry Beach State Park is located in Saco, with beach and nature trails for the whole family to enjoy. Ocean Park, located just south of Old Orchard, has an outdoor amphitheater that provides live entertainment throughout the summer just a short walk from Virginia Tent & Trailer Park one of our tent campgrounds in Maine.
