How To Winterize An RV

The weather is getting colder. Before it gets too chilly outdoors, you will need to winterize your RV. To make it easier for you, Morgan RV Resorts has listed the steps to make the winterizing process a snap! Follow our checklist below:

  • Start by draining and flushing the fresh water tank, black water holding tank, gray water holding tank and hot water tank.
  • Do you have low-point drain lines? If so, uncap these drain lines for both the hot and cold faucets, recap and close the faucets.
  • Make sure all of the faucets in your RV are closed and the water pump is off.
  • Check to ensure the water bypass valve is closed to your hot water tank.
  • Disconnect the water line where it joins the fresh water tank.
  • Blow out the water lines with air pressure (make sure not to exceed 40-50 p.s.i) then put 1-2 gallons of anti-freeze in the water lines. (Note, you should only use non-toxic RV anti-freeze) (If you have low-point drain lines, you may not have to do this step. If you do not know how to put in the anti-freeze, please refer to the checklist below).
  • Change the oil in the generator of your RV.

How to Put Anti-freeze in the Water Lines:

  • Place the water inlet line into the anti-freeze container, then turn on the water pump.
  • Open the faucet valves slowly until the red anti-freeze liquid starts pouring out. Make sure to open each valve one at a time. As soon as the liquid starts flowing, you can turn off the valves of each faucet. Do this for the shower and toilet as well.
  • Turn the water pump off.
  • Remove the inlet line from the anti-freeze.
  • Re-connect the water line where it joins the fresh water tank.
  • Start to pour a little bit of anti-freeze down each drain and the toilet bowl. (Note: Make sure not to flush the liquid into the holding tank.)

Congratulations! You now know how to winterize an RV. Remember,
spring is right around the corner
and it is never too early to book your campsite at one of our many RV resorts. Begin planning today!
